Laminate Veneers
What Is Laminate Veneer (Porcelain Laminate)?
“Lamina” is derived from Latin and means “leaf” or “sheet,” referring to the ultra-thin porcelain veneers applied to teeth with minimal preparation. Laminate veneers are among the least invasive dental restorations, involving only 0.3–0.7 mm of enamel reduction. These ultra-thin porcelain shells are bonded to the front surface of teeth to create a natural and aesthetic appearance.

When Are Laminate Veneers Used?
Laminate veneers are typically applied in the following situations:
- When teeth whitening treatments are ineffective and a brighter shade is desired
- For structurally damaged or aesthetically unappealing teeth (e.g. heavily filled, discolored, stained, or cracked front teeth)
- To close gaps between front teeth for a highly aesthetic result
- In cases of chipped or worn-down front teeth
- For patients with old, stained, or deteriorated fillings
- After root canal treatments that cause teeth to darken
- In patients with mildly crooked or misaligned teeth (not suitable for severe misalignments)
Veneers can be applied to a single tooth, multiple teeth, or an entire smile depending on the aesthetic needs. When performed by a skilled dentist using high-quality materials and craftsmanship, laminate veneers deliver superior aesthetic results.
Who Is a Candidate for Laminate Veneers?
Laminate veneers can be applied to most individuals aged 18 and older who are dissatisfied with the appearance of their front teeth.
Who Is Not Suitable for Laminate Veneers?
Patients with the following conditions may not be suitable unless these issues are first addressed:
- Bruxism (teeth grinding/clenching, especially during sleep)
- Severe jaw disorders
- Nail biting, pen chewing, or similar oral habits
- Advanced gum recession
Applying veneers in the presence of these conditions may cause the veneers to fail. Proper treatment of underlying issues is necessary before veneer application.
